Approximately 15,000 students nationwide are awarded scholarships every year. The Texas Trades Scholarship is a competitive scholarship for students who are pursuing a career in a qualified trade. The goal of the program is to provide financial assistance to high-achieving, low-income students who have a strong desire to enter a qualified trade. The Texas Trades Scholarship provides up to $10,000 in scholarships per year for eligible students. Who is eligible for the scholarship?
Applicants must be enrolled in at least one degree program related to a trade, or a program related to a qualified trade and pursuing a baccalaureate degree. The applicant’s first- or second-year graduation or enrollment status must be no later than the applicant’s 45th birthday or at the end of the current academic year. Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens, and at least 16 years of age. How do I apply for the scholarship? Students can obtain the application from their school, through Texas Community Colleges or the Federal Student Aid Office, or by visiting the Texas Trades Education and Scholarship website. How much does it cost?
Tuition and living expenses will be paid for during the first year. The scholarship is renewable until the student completes a bachelor’s degree. Students can renew their scholarship every year if they are still in good academic standing.
The scholarship has no limitations on area of study. Who can apply? Students must be registered in a recognized trade and must maintain a 3.0 grade point average or higher. Students must also be accepted to a four-year college or university in Texas, or have been accepted at an accredited two-year college or university.

What are some of the in-state public colleges and universities where in-state students can attend with this scholarship?
In-state students with a Texas Trades Scholarship and federal financial aid will be eligible for in-state tuition rates at Texas public colleges and universities. The deadline for applying for the scholarship is May 1, 2017. The 2018 deadline to apply for the scholarship is February 1, 2018. Students can apply online. Answer: The Texas Trades Scholarship is available for in-state students attending one of the following seven public institutions in Texas: the University of Texas at Dallas, the University of Houston, the University of North Texas, Texas A&M University, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Texas A&M University-San Antonio and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
